Full motor control for demanding applications

The new FR-A700 frequency inverter from Mitsubishi Electric is designed for demanding applications and has powerful functions for positioning, speed and torque control. Advanced technology such as Mitsubishi’s Real Sensorless Vector Control and integrated PLC provide great flexibility for all kinds of applications.

The FR-A700 with vector control provides complete control of the motor’s torque. Online auto-tuning enables optimum alignment at all times regardless of the motor temperature. The FR-A700 offers optimum performance and total motor control for demanding applications such as cranes, hoists and travelling cranes.

High starting torque for mixers or compressors, etc. and a steady rotation speed with shock loads in centrifuges and separators. Pulse generator feedback provides the basis for optimum speed regulation. There are a number of special functions for centrifuges, fans, pumps and other applications.

Power range:

  • 0.4–90 kW, 3-phase 200–400V
  • 0.4–55kW, 3-phase 380-480V
  • 75–500 kW, 3-phase 380-500V

Brute strength

The FR-A700 is a vector-controlled inverter for demanding applications with great dynamics and varying loads. Online auto-tuning measures motor data for each start-up. This ensures constant optimal adjustment of the system regardless of the temperature of the motor, and the regulating algorithm is always working with correct data.

The result is a drive with a high starting torque that also handles rapid changes in load in an optimum manner.

Real Sensorless Vector Control (RSV)

RSV gives the FR-A700 high torque over the entire register – even at low rotation speeds. Additional benefits are that RSV provides very good speed performance, unsurpassed torque control and a very high starting torque. The FR-A700 can handle high starting torques up to 200% in one minute and 270% in 0.5 sec.

This gives these inverters dynamic performance and total control, which was previously only possible with DC or Servo drives.

Precise speed and torque control

Pulse generator feedback provides the basis for optimum speed regulation. The torque of the motor can also be controlled. Pulse generator feedback provides capabilities for stopping in specific positions. You can also maintain torque when the motor is stationary.

An effective torque limit protects both motor and machine. Other modes can also be selected, including augmented flux vector control and simple U/F control.

Even suspended loads, such as on cranes and hoists, can be positioned exactly using the motor with pulse feedback (closed loop).

Integrated PLC

The FR-A700 range is equipped with an integrated PLC as standard. The PLC provides access to all the parameters, and with a 1 kbyte memory it is programmed with GX Developer. Values for all inputs can be processed and all outputs can be controlled.

Communication and networks

The frequency inverter is easily connected to a PC via a USB port. The inverter can also be controlled via a RS485 interface or via network solutions such as Profibus, DeviceNet, CC-Link, Modbus RTU, CANopen or LONworks.

Beijer Electronics can offer network solutions for Mitsubishi PLCs with accompanying operator terminal applications. Each project has a “Getting started” document that describes installation, connection and possible uses for the various program modules.
