Beijer Electronics expands in Denmark – acquires Brodersen Automation

The Automation business area of listed Swedish automation company, Beijer Electronics, has signed an agreement to acquire Brodersen Automation A/S. The acquisition of the Danish company, which has around 30 employees, will take place on 1 April 2007. The Brodersen family is making the sale.

“The deal with Beijer Electronics is the best solution for customers and staff,” says Jens Brodersen, the departing CEO of Brodersen Automation, who is pleased to welcome a respected buyer that is focused on automation and has the resources to develop the company further.

Lars Ekelund, CEO of the Automation business area at Beijer Electronics, describes the acquisition is a key part of Beijer Electronics’ offensive efforts on the expanding Danish market.

Since the start of the year Beijer Electronics A/S has had responsibility for sales and distribution of Mitsubishi Electric’s automation products on the Danish market along with CitectSCADA products and Cognex vision products.

The move into Denmark is one of the results of the strategic agreement signed last year by Mitsubishi Electric and Beijer Electronics. On 1 October 2006 Mitsubishi Electric also became a minority owner of Beijer Electronics Automation. In addition to covering Denmark and Sweden, Beijer Electronics, which has its head office in Malmö, is also the agent for the complete Mitsubishi Electric range of automation products in Norway, Finland, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. Products cover the full spectrum, from control systems and frequency inverters to servo systems and robots. There is also a series of in-house developed operator terminals, products that Brodersen Automation has successfully distributed in Denmark.

Brodersen Automation also acts as the agent for Baumer Electric, Brodersen Controls and IDEC. Control systems, circuit relays, transmitters and other components from these and other manufacturers will not only stay in the product range. Selected products will now also be marketed on the entire Nordic and Baltic markets.

Beijer Electronics’ existing office in Ballerup will be strengthened with Brodersen Automation’s presence in Roskilde. Integration of the activities of both companies will provide a broader base from which to offer extended local technical support, service and training to existing customers and new ones. Brodersen Automation’s activities in Sweden and Norway will be integrated with Beijer Electronics’ existing organisations in each country.

“Brodersen Automation gives us a nationwide sales organisation with a broad customer base in expanding markets such as energy and shipping,” says Lars Ekelund, who emphasises that the commitment to the Danish market is long term.
